A Day with a Homeless Dog

A Day with a Homeless Dog

Meet Natasha...

Volunteering and helping out Kansas City's homeless animals is my passion.  It is so important to me that I help be the voice for these animals.  I can't imagine missing a Sunday at the shelter.  The happiness I feel every time I get a dog out of his/her kennel for some fresh air is amazing.  It means the world to those dogs and they are so appreciative.  I have met so many wonderful dogs in so many different shapes and with so many different personalities.

I have been volunteering with KCMO for over 6 years now.  I remember it first began after a dear friend and co-worker continued to send me "urgent" lists.  Dogs that only had days until it would lose it's life...I couldn't understand why so many where dying!  I decided to go volunteer and see what it was all about.  I remember the overwhelming feeling of rows of cages with dogs barking and staring at me.  They all wanted attention, the all wanted some fresh air; there were so many!  It of course broke my heart to see so many dogs without homes, I couldn't imagine my dogs being stuck in there.  I walked as many as I could, giving them the 10-20 minutes of attention they needed.  I was hooked at that point.  How could I not go back, if I didn't, who would?

We need more volunteers.  These dogs need our help.  I only hope that I can help build awareness about shelter animals and encourage others to share their story.
